I loved the personal moments she shared about them meeting. I’ve often thought of Madonna as a female Michael Jackson, so hearing her words sort of confirmed my thoughts. She spoke about a man she felt was “abandoned” by a public that was “busy passing judgment.”Ĭiting similarities with herself, Madonna spoke of the many things the two had in common, including each having eight siblings and the fact they both grew up in Midwestern towns. Her words touched me and, perhaps, opened the eyes of many people. Madonna opened the show with a tribute to Jackson. His videos defined MTV for me, and it was only fitting they pay homage to The King Of Pop. I would not have tuned into the Video Music Awards on Sunday, but I wanted to see the tribute by Janet Jackson to her late brother Michael. That’s a huge statement, considering my friends and I grew up watching music videos on the channel. This may sound like one of those “you know you’re getting old” moments, but it’s true:?The older I get, the less significant MTV becomes.
